A journal entry of my 13 year old self reads, “…be the entertainer, not the entertained…”. Twenty-seven years later, I am sitting with my 13 year old son at his first rock concert. Weezer, a band that spans both my generation and his, has whipped the crowd into a frenzy. I laugh as I catch myself analyzing camera positions, lighting, staging, projection mapping, and all the other production elements. I am jealously staring at the team standing behind the sound and video consoles, wishing I was down there on headset.
“Camera 4, pan right. Stage lights down. Scenic light set to bass beat. Graphics to camera 4. Go!” The crowd explodes as the crew exchanges high-fives, spiking the proverbial football on the game-winning touchdown.
I’m snapped back into the present moment as Weezer pounds out another electrifying chord progression in E-Major. I laugh at myself, thinking that earning the headset on something like this is within my reach. But wait, is it? My inner monologue says with a smirk, “Oh boy, here we go, the sprouting of a new goal!” Well, because of Silver Fox, it is a possibility. Being surrounded by amazingly talented people and partners, I know we can make anything happen. Do I flip the coin into that bucket I’ve emptied so many times before? My inner 13 year old just did.
